Creating Promotions
Promotions allow you to highlight products, offer discounts, and influence buying behavior directly inside the Pepper app. This article walks you through every step of creating a promotion in the Pepper Management Center.
Before You Begin
You will need:
Admin access to the Pepper Management Center
Optional: existing Item Groups and Customer Groups (recommended for more efficient setup)
Accessing the Promotions Page
Log into the Pepper Management Center.
From the left navigation menu, select Promotions.
Click Create Promotion to start a new promotion.
The Promotions page also displays:
Live promotions
Upcoming promotions
Paused promotions
Expired promotions
(Optional) Create Item Group
Item Groups are recommended if your promotion includes multiple related items.
To create an Item Group:
Go to Catalog → Item Groups.
Select Create Item Group.
Add individual items or nest existing item groups.
Save the group.
Note: Using Item Groups allows you to update which products are included without editing the promotion itself.
Creating Promotion Details
Inside the Promotion Editor, complete the following fields:
Promotion Name
Internal use only.
This name appears in reporting but is not visible to customers.
Start & End Dates
Set the start date (immediate or scheduled).
Add an end date or leave the promotion ongoing.
Tagline
Appears as a small label above promoted items (e.g., Weekly Special, Sale, Featured).
Banner Display
You can choose an image or a background color.
If using an image:
Avoid text-heavy images; mobile cropping varies by device.
Center important visual elements.
Promotion Display Text
This text appears inside the promotional banner card.
Keep it concise (e.g., This Week’s Highlights).
Character count is the same whether you use a color block or image.
Select Eligible Customers / Segment your Audience
In the Targeting section:
Choose the audience
All Customers, or a specific Customer Group (e.g., Italian Restaurants, New Users, Test Accounts)
Customer Groups can be maintained manually or synced from your ERP depending on your setup.
Optional: Send Push Notification
Sends a mobile push alert when the promotion goes live.
The alert includes your company name and the promotion tagline.
Redemption Limits
You can control how often a customer may use the promotion:
Customer-Level Limits will limit how many times each account can redeem the promotion (e.g., 1 time, 2 times, unlimited).
Per-Order Limits prevents a promotion from applying multiple times within the same order, and are useful for order-level discounts (e.g., “$20 off $400 orders” only once per order).
Defining Discount Conditions
This section determines when and how the promotion applies. You can set conditions based on:
Minimum Requirements
Minimum quantity
Minimum dollar amount
Exact quantity
Eligible Items
Select individual items, or
Choose an Item Group created earlier
Discount Type
Pepper supports the following discount types:
Percentage Off
Amount Off
Fixed Price
Free Item (BOGO and similar promotions)
Save and Activate the Promotion
Review all details.
Click Save.
If the start date is immediate, the promotion will appear in the app the next time a customer refreshes.
(Best Practice) Previewing Promotions
To preview how a promotion appears:
Use a test customer account in your Customer Groups.
View the promotion in the Pepper app on both mobile and web.
Tap the banner card to see all included items.
Tip: Because images are cropped dynamically, test on several devices whenever using image-based banners.
Analytics, and Viewing Promotion Performance
Pepper provides promotion analytics through the Dashboards tab.
To access reporting:
Go to Dashboards → Promotions v2.
Filter by date range or by specific promotion.
Review metrics such as:
Cases sold during the promotion
Average order quantities before, during, and after the promotion
Total redemptions
Total spend influenced by the promotion
You may also export the report for presentations or internal reviews.
Common Promotion Types

Highlights products at the top of the order guide to increase visibility.
New Customer Incentive
e.g., “$20 off first two orders over $400.”
BOGO or Cross-Sell
e.g., “Buy $20 of tomatoes, get basil free.”
Customer-Specific Promotions (“Refuse to Lose”)
